The Ontario Public Works Association is pleased to introduce to our members a new webinar series that will take place every month, starting this August. To get things kicked off, OPWA presents the following Webinar.
Upcoming Changes to Watermain Disinfection Procedure and Linear Sewage Works Approval
Tuesday, August 25th, 2020 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm EST
Aziz Ahmed from the Ontario Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) will be talking about two upcoming changes to approvals for linear works!
The MECP's 2015 Watermain Disinfection Procedure is being updated to include new provisions to provide flexibility to municipalities and operating authority when installing and repairing watermains. The goal is to increase drinking water safety, reduce costs and disruption to traffic flows. The consultation process with all impacted owners is now complete, and this presentation will outline the changes you can expect when a new version of the WDP is issued.
The MECP is proposing to modernize Ontario’s environmental approval process for low-risk municipal sewage works by implementing a Consolidated Linear Infrastructure Permissions approach. The proposed approach will consolidate and update the approvals process for these types of works. The proposed approach uses a risk-based framework to improve service delivery and public transparency, while enhancing environmental protection by establishing a more holistic picture of where sewage works are located across the province which in turn will inform and support effective environmental policy and planning decisions.
